President’s Message August, 2010
Time flies when you are having fun, right? Last month, I wrote about 2 very important, annual chapter events - our SHRM Foundation Golf Tournament and our Diversity Conference. Both require extended, detailed planning and execution in order to be successful with intended impact! Likewise, both will be “history” by the time this letter is published. I’d like to extend my personal thanks to each member who volunteered time toward these two, major annual events!
Oh, and about volunteering, believe it or not, it’s nearly time for the 2011 nominating process to begin! Didn’t I say time flies? Please consider how and where you might be available to fill a volunteer role next year. Our chapter, which is 100% managed by volunteers, requires over 100 volunteers each year to make everything happen!
And, here’s the thing – volunteering is also a great way to develop your skills and experiences in a non-vocational setting! You can stretch yourself, have positive impact on others, improve your resume and hone your skill set without putting your next raise or bonus at risk!
On a different topic, I’ve personally learned a bit more about The Healing Place of Wake County, one of the organizations our chapter has been supporting with donations of clothing brought by members to our monthly meetings. Did you realize that we can donate “gently used clothing” for ALL AGES, male and female – not just work-related attire? Please consider supporting our Community Outreach Committee – and our community – by bringing such items to the next meeting!
